It is a leisurely stroll in one of the most popular destinations of the area. Desenzano is located on the south coast of Lake Garda, where the basin looks like a calm sea. Here thanks to the rolling hills, the mild climate and the lake stretching out in a blue basin, you will enjoy a Mediterranean atmosphere all year round. In this small town, tourists can take lovely walks to its picturesque marina or decide to go uphill and discover the remains of a fortification. Absolutely worth-visiting are the amazing remains of an ancient Roman villa, which is still adorned with several polychrome mosaics.
Aristocrats from Brescia and Verona, who owned estates in this area, used to build their summer houses near the lake to enjoy its breathtaking views, but also to show their power and enlightenment through the majesty of their houses. Though this Roman villa is no longer close to the waterfront, it is still a symbol of its owners’ wealth, proved by its dimensions and decorations. Worth visiting is also the Duomo of Santa Maddalena, where you can see the “Last Supper”, a fine painting by Giambattista Tiepolo.
